Solid surface is a non-porous low-maintenance countertop surface. It can be joined invisibly by a trained craftsman. Manufactured in sheet form, solid surface is typically used as kitchen countertops, bathroom vanity tops, and shower and tub surrounds. Countertop fabricators typically join solid surface sheets into desired shapes using a two-part adhesive, after which the cured joint is machined flat. The same method is used to create extra thick edges, which can be machined using tools and techniques similar to those used to work hardwoods.
A major appeal of solid surface is its seamless nature and consistent pattern. Solid surface sinks, such as with cultured marble, can be joined to the countertop surface with no gaps, which eliminates areas for water to collect and bacteria to grow.
Should the material become scratched or broken, solid surface can, in most cases, be repaired quickly by a trained fabricator. Because the surface is solid throughout, a countertop that has undergone years of wear and tear can be refinished. The installed product is available in a variety of finishes, ranging from matte to high-gloss (not recommended), although most manufacturers recommend a matte finish for ease of maintenance.

Engineered stone is also commonly referred to as “quartz surface”, though it is possible to created engineered stone from materials other than quartz.
Engineered stone is a composite material comprising rock and resin. It is used primarily for kitchen countertops. The material is factory made in slabs, cut and polished by fabricators, and assembled at the worksite. Engineered stone products are gaining in popularity and are sometimes preferred over granite products because engineered stone requires less maintenance and a more uniform pattern, compared to unsealed granite, and has better resistance to stains. However, recent research reported in Consumer Reports magazine reveals virtually no difference in performance between quartz products and sealed granite.

Natural stone (e.g. granite) is exactly that, a stone that comes out of the ground from a quarry. Initial stone fabrication takes place at or near the quarry of origin, with blocks being blasted from the ground, sawn to thickness and then machined into standard widths before being surface polished. Slabs are shipped to our supplier then to us to be shaped using diamond cutting and finishing equipment in our shop. The edges are fabricated by hand-held routers, grinders, or mechanized equipment, then installed on the job site by our professional installers.
Natural Stones, in all there natural beauty, are not with out flaws. Each type of natural stone has its own personality. Granite and marble come with blemishes, fishers, and veining, which all play a major part in there strength. Some slabs are more likely to crack over others; this is natural with granite and marble. All these things should be considered when choosing a stone for your project.
We recommend that all of our customers visit our supplier to hand pick the actual slab that will be used for their project.
